Hall, stairs and landings
Everyone’s least favourite area to DIY, the hall, stairs and landing. It’s awkward, it’s too high, there’s all those spindles! Trying to create a ‘room’ from the place in the home that is the most ignored can be tricky. Essentially you spend time there only to get to other places, not really a place to dwell. So why spend any thought or money on it?
Taking time to consider it as you would any other room in the house, can really enhance your overall living experience, making it more than just a transitional space. Take a look from your living room into your hallway, cast your eye from your bedroom across the landing to the bathroom - do things jar, interrupt or flow as if all of one conversation? When you take a look in this way you can see how to bring the space into its own. Choosing to focus on colour, flooring, pattern or texture all helps to draw the spaces together so that when you look through from room to room you have a sense of one story.
This singular narrative doesn’t have to be boring, there’s no need to opt for bland just to draw things together. Maybe a singular colour is just the thing to tie it all in - the pop of pink of a duvet in a bedroom could translate to an oversized piece of wall art on a landing and a series of colourful hooks in the entryway. Making your space a reflection of your tastes, in a cohesive way, creates a place to make you happy.
Below are some real delights for inspiration. Super creative ideas that create beautiful, individual homes.
